Well here I am in a side ward of North Manchester General Hospital (NMGH).

Phew a mad couple of days that has been and a few more to follow I am sure.

It all started last Wednesday, i thought I had a bit of a blockage in my intestine, a glass of orange juice usually clears it but no, it got worse. Over the last few days and hours, I have had a few low's and yesterday/today. been in some pain. (A right misery).

I have had a few low days, that when some adjustments and realisation were put in place, brought me around. A reaction to Anti-Biotics and Steroids. Last few days in pain due to blockage in my intestine. This will go on until blockage shifts.

The cancer journey. Right had my 4th treatment, in current sequence of Cetuximab link and 
 Irinotecan link Early in the treatment, I had issues with fatigue, then after the first two treatments a rash developed. Met with my consultant and his registrar, consultant advised a wash/lotion called Dermol. Some cream's, Hydrocortisone. Trimovate and Ciprofloxacin. Well lets start with a look back at 2011;


No stay overs in hospitals.
No operations.
First holiday in 2/3 years. Travelled to Cortes de la Frontera, Andalusia, Spain.
Decided to plan a move to Corte, so to improve quality of life. Commuting back to England as required, renting in Spain. Commuting for work/treatment ect.

My chemo effects are now wearing off, they did not effect me as much this time. Rash although there, is not as irritating as much, hair just about gone, fatigue not as noticeable, some short term memory loss, mainly around descriptive words, peoples names. Stoma bag not adhering as per the norm, cleaning skin regularly but still getting burnt skin. All in All, doing well. Wow, I feel good today, best in a long time, happy in body and mind.

I have had my 3rd treatment of this chemo cycle and the after effects of that have worn off quicker this time, so am very positive. The rash on head and chest flared last Thursday around day 10, will monitor if this is part of a pattern as with chemo recovery time.

My new chemo treatment, I hope is working. I am very fatigued, I am coming out in a skin rash, all good signs but in the case of fatigue, quite draining. I am far from cheerful, I know in my head that my treatment is working but am having some low points, which I must find a way through. I am just coming around from the after effects of my New Chemo treatment. YES the funding came through. GOD BLESS the Christie Trust.

The treatment has to be given over an extended period, making the Monday of my appointment a long day, 15 hours, door to door, treatment given slowly as I am under observation. Hopefully next time may not be as long.

I did not qualify for the clinical trial, for the cancer treatment my consultant wanted me on. This did not stop him putting me forward for the treatment though. He has put my case forward for direct funding from 'The Christie'/NHS. My consultant is well respected and he says that he has never been refused a recommendation before, so envisages no problem. First of all my health. I visited 'The Christie' Hospital, yesterday (Monday). Two appointments that overlapped but worked OK.

Being on a clinical trial, appears to put you on a fast track system. Having had my heart scan the week before, it left me with screening test's, which were, blood pressure, temperature, heart beat, urine, weight, ECG. I also had a CT Scan.

All my appointments are now in place in regards to my scans, of which I have had a heart scan already, just a CT Scan booked for this coming Monday at 12-15 after my 10-15 screening appointment. I do not expect to have any results until Monday the 31st of October. I will let all know, ASAP. I feel strong and confident.

It has been a few weeks since my last entry.

Excellent News first,  I was informed at my last visit to 'The Christie' Hospital that the cancer treatment I was on, was not working. It was decided that a test would be carried out, a biopsy on an old body part of mine was sent to Sofia in Budapest, being the home of the scientific area being used by the chemical company, paying for the trial..

CT Scan results given to us, not good, cancer tumours in my liver have increased, so this means the current chemotherapy mix, is not working, it was at the start but has become less effective. So no chemo today.

Going forward, the cancer crew are looking to get me on a trial chemotherapy but my test's have to show that I have a 'wild' gene, for me to go on the trial.

The weekend just gone saw Norma and I staying with my Sister Lynn and my Brother in Law George in Liverpool. We ate well in The Salt House, Tapas bar. (link) and on the Saturday night had a great steak in The Miller and Carter (link) had a great porter house steak, just like a beef chop. Good company in good settings. It was also my 58th birthday and Norma and my 8th wedding anniversary.

Mark, my friend has headed south to visit his Mum and Dad, he flies back to the Ukraine tomorrow, Friday. We have had a good time, his being here has made me go shopping, eating out and loads more, things that I know I would not have done on my own.

I thought that I had picked up a virus making it hard to poo, this was around December 2009.
In May 2009, on holiday with my Wife Norma and her Sister Sheila in Tunisia, Sheila mainley who has and is dealing with her own issues, convinced me in visiting my GP on our return home of which I agreed to do. I owe these Ladies a lot.

I was admitted a week last Sunday feeling a little unwell. After test's I am now being treated for diabetes, this is now being brout under control.

My Daughter in Law's Father, has been admitted into hospital but is now on the mend. He is a good man and we are all right behind his recovery, our thoughts are with him.

LOL</title><summary type='text'>Just back from 'The Christie' Hospital. Blood taken for examination, consultation with Doctor, more blood tests to see if it is clotting OK.

The consultation with the Doctor went OK the cancer tumors had progressed in my lungs and liver with signs of new tumors. Then the Good News, I treatable, no promise on my getting worse or better, time and treatment will only give us this answer.

CT Scan taken on Friday, the results will be available to me next Monday, at the meeting we will find out what the next part of the journey will be.

My Doctor has issued me another sick note for two months this will take me up to the 8th of May. My MacMillan nurse says I am looking better and I still am adding weight.

Yesterday, I visited 'The Christie' to meet up with my Cancer Team, Norma and I arrived in good time, I was booked in for my blood test, the nurse hit oil on first stab LOL. My sample was sent down to the lab to be analysed.. This usually takes around an hour then you are called to see one of your Team.

My Macmillan nurse Lesley dropped in last night to write me a prescription for steroids to cover my going to the Isle of Man. I have no bad effects from these tablets and my dose has been doubled. I had been diagnosed with terminal Cancer late 2009, so Chemotherapy was my only option, this was given to me to slow down the spread of the tumors but to our joy the treatment reduced or killed off a lot of tumors.

Health; I am still waiting for an appointment for a CT Scan to see how my Cancer is. Generally I am not getting outside but my walking climbing is improving. My eating is up and down but I am trying.

Initially this was to hand in my sick note for a further two months, this will be until the 8th of January 2011. On arrival Norma and I were greeted by an old friend and we had a walk around our newly fitted  call center, it looks really good. My Sister had an operation in Tuesday in Liverpool all appears to have gone well some discomfort but manageable. I hope to see more of my Sister and Brother in Law over the weekend.

Norma and I travelled up from Manchester to Carlisle, booked into the Hilltop Hotel part of the Swallow Hotel Group which is the hands of an administrator, the hotel is clean and tidy if looking a bit tired, considering there are B&amp;B that are dearer in Carlisle with less facilities, bottom line good value for money.

Irene my Sister in Law from my first marriage. Irene was a Great Lady, she left behind her 4 great Sons. We will never forget you. XXX

I was diagnosed with cancer in late May 2009 but was ill for about 6 months before seeing a doctor. I promised Irene I would fight the fight and I will.

Wednesday saw Norma and I go into Town, we walked around the Arndale Centre and stopped of at Druckers for pots of tea.Druckers I made a few calls to friends and generaly had a good time, Norma nipped and did a bit of shopping, one item bought is a new telescopic walking stick.

I have slept for 14.5 hours, almost solid, not waking up until 13:30. I feel well rested and not as lethargic as I have over the last few days.

Norma and I are planning on taking a short break, visiting family in Carlisle for a day or so, then on to the Lake District for a few days. I have invited Brother in Law and Sister (L&amp;G) and do hope they will come for at least a day or two. My Sister and Brother in Lay arrived around Lunch time, we caught up on all the Family news. My Sister had met a lot of them on Friday and Saturday at her parties, a lot of fun was had by all.

Our land line is down at home, it will takes up to 7 days to fix. A car hit the cabinet about a month ago and BT seem to be rebuilding the whole box and this means intermittent service. BT are also upgrading the Broadband in the cab, so this is intermittent as well.

Norma and I had a number of issues getting my bags stuck to my ever expanding stomach, this was upsetting to us both and very frustrating at times.

My District Nurse arrived at Lunch time and changed my dressings, all looking good.

This coming week see's me being taken into the North Manchester General Hospital (NMGH).

The operation is at this time to my knowledge, on my liver (50% removal), my colon and possibly other bits and pieces if once they open me up are feasible to remove.

BUPA are not aware at this time but will hopefully come up with an earlier date.

Start of the week I was preparing to going into hospital for major surgery, then BUPA call us to say that the operation is off due to my surgeon being taken ill. They are expecting to remove the right hand side of my liver 50% that is and cut out a portion of my colon.

I will have both operations at the same time, quite a large cut to get at both area's. After a chat, it has shown that there was a third option, after my last scan (PET) the week before, there is no sign of any Cancer. This does not mean I am clear and is why caution is called for, it may be that the chemotherapy is masking the results.

Thursday, I have an appointment with my Cancer Consultant, I had a PET scan last Monday and this should enable all my Cancer Team to work our the next step. I have a small operation on Monday to have my Hickman line removed, after that I will be having a PET scan, this leaves me a bit radioactive and a danger to pregnant women. I intend to go to work before my opp and afterwards if allowed.
